Winter farmers' market in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH — Bristol isn’t the only East Bay town that offers a wintertime farmers’ market.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, the Aquidneck Growers Market, which operated from Newport Vineyards & Winery in Middletown during the warmer months, moved indoors to St. Mary’s Church Parish Hall, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
The market features many of the same farmers and vendors at the summer markets selling local fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats and eggs, fresh seafood, breads, pastries and a fine selection of freshly ground coffees. Live music, local artisans and hot lunch items from local chefs will round out the day.
You can join your favorite local farmers and artisans there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through May 11, 2013. This Saturday, Nov. 17, there will be a special Thanksgiving-themed market.
Vendors at the market include: Maplewood Farm and Aquidneck Farms in Portsmouth; Paradise Hill Farm in Westport; June Love’s English Cakes in East Providence; Provencal Bakery and Cafe, Simmons Farm and The Coffee Guy in Middletown; Tallulah’s Tacos and Le Petit Gourmet in Newport; Olga’s Cup and Saucer in Providence; The Local Catch in Narragansett; Bravo Wood Fired Pizza in North Kingstown; Pat’s Pastured in East Greenwich; Matunuck Vegetable Farm and Matunuck Oyster Farm in Matunuck; Absalona Greenhouse in Chepachet; and Barden Family Orchard in North Scituate.

The other local wintertime farmers’ market is at Mt. Hope Farm, 300 Metacom Ave., Bristol. It’s held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through April.
In addition to hosting local vendors selling fresh produce, meat and fish, baked goods and other treats, the market also boasts live music, demonstrations, kids’ activities, knife-sharpening, clothing and electronics drives and more.
