William V. “Bill” Whalen, Jr. 62 of Barbara Lane died Tuesday April 15, 2014 at the Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of JoAnn (Tavares) Whalen to whom he was married for 38 years.

Born in Providence he was a son of the late William V. and Elizabeth (O’Loughlin) Whalen, Sr. William was a truck driver for Wayne Distributing before retiring. He was a member of the Sons of Italy in East Providence and P.E.R East Providence Elks No. 2337.

Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Shannon Whalen of New York, one son, Dr. William V. Whalen III of Swansea, one grandson, William V. Whalen IV, one sister, Maureen Whalen, one brother, Jack Whalen and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 7:45 a.m from the Perry-Mcstay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a service at 9 a.m. in Saint Dominic’s Church, 1277 Grand Army Hwy, Swansea. Burial will be in Saint Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street, Warren. Calling hours Friday, April 18, from 4-8 p.m..
