William A. Mac Intosh, 83, formerly of East Providence

William A. Mac Intosh, Jr., 83 of Jamestown and formerly of East Providence, passed away on June 9, 2018. Bill was the son of the late William A. Mac Intosh and Edna Jeannette (Lavoie) Mac Intosh and is survived by his wife of 61 years Barbara-Ann (Hughes) Mac Intosh.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Bill worked as a police/fire dispatcher for the City of East Providence and was formerly the office manager for Woods Mobil and a police officer in East Providence. He enjoyed his role as a life-affiliate member of Harmony, Inc. and Harmony Heritage in support his wife Barbara-Ann’s role in the international organization of barbershop women. Bill was a supportive and valued presence at their many performances and contests throughout the US and Canada.

He leaves behind his children Stephen MacIntosh and his wife Mary of East Greenwich; Douglas Mac Intosh of Jamestown; and Heather Vine and her husband Leonard of Riverside. He was grandfather to Andrew, Hayley and Lauren Vine; Cameron and Duncan MacIntosh; and the late Kristin Vine.

Calling hours will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Smith Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave., Riverside, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Harmony, Inc., 1055 Chadbourne Road, Standish,ME, 04084.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
