Wildcats blank Connolly 6-0 in Wednesday baseball

Westport rode strong pitching and a quick start to a 6-0 baseball win over Bishop Connolly last Wednesday.

Pitcher Jake Friar kept Connolly batters off-balance all day as he threw a three-hitter.

Westport batters managed only two hits on the day but managed to start fast with a five-run first inning — much of the damage done by their opponent's walks and miscues.

Westport added another run in the second inning on more walks and errors. Thereafter, Bishop Connolly's pitcher settled down and stymied Westport batters on just one more hit and six strikeouts.

Friar ended the game with nine strikeouts. He also had one of Westport's two hits, the other coming from Mat Tidwell.

The win improved the Wildcats to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the Mayflower League.
