Westport Police: Route 195 scare leads to DUI charge

Wednesday, June 5

Called to Drift Road at 7:54 a.m., police charged Marisol Medina Sousa, 45, of 312 Drift Road, with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for a school bus.

Thursday, June 6

A 5:31 p.m. motor vehicle stop on American Legion Highway resulted in the warrant arrest of Matthew Rodrigues, 33, of Fairhaven. He was wanted by Plymouth District Court to answer charges of receiving stolen property over $250 and larceny over $250.

Friday, June 7

After a  7:07 a.m. motor vehicle stop on Pine Hill Road at Old County Road, police charged Miguel Q. Gutierreze, 32, of New Bedford, with driving without a license.

Saturday, June 8

Crews were called to Goyette Street at 5:46 a.m. for utility wires down.

After receiving a 911 call about a disturbance on State Road at 5:20 p.m., police arrested Frank T. Canario, 74, of Bristol, on a warrant and for receiving stolen property over $250, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. See separate story.

Sunday, June 9

A break-in was reported on Union Street at 1:16 p.m.

Monday, June 10

After a 12:52 p.m. motor vehicle stop on State Road at Route 88, police arrested Raymond Chouinard, 51, of Fall River, on a warrant.

Wednesday, June 12

After a motor vehicle pursuit that ended near the junction of Routes 88 and 195, police arrested Ryan J. Cordeiro, 29, of Fall River, on charges of drunk driving, driving to endanger and failure to stop for police. Police said they tried to pull him over and he stopped once in the passing lane of Route 88 but then took off. At the on-ramp to Route 195 east he lost control of his car, drove through a wooded area and across three lanes of 195 before winding up in the median. His car nearly struck another as it crossed the highway. Asked if he needed to go to the hospital, he said no — just to the bathroom.

Crews were called out for a report of fire on Newton Street at 9:28 p.m.

Thursday, June 13

A break-in was reported via 911 call on Gifford Road at 8:49 a.m.

At 12:44 p.m., James J. Lebelle, 40, of Newport, was transported to Newport, RI, on a court warrant arrest.

Friday, June 14

A vehicle fire was reported on Benoit Street at 12:43 a.m.
