Watershed Alliance seeks Rivers Month volunteers

Posted

The Westport River Watershed Alliance is celebrating Rivers Month and the summer solstice in June and the Alliance needs volunteers. WRWA invites anyone interested in helping out to attend a volunteer meeting at the Watershed Alliance’s office located at 1151 Main Road in Westport on Saturday, March 2, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

On Saturday, June 8, volunteers are needed for the first Watershed Bike Ride with registration and ride-related tasks. On Saturday, June 22, WRWA is hosting its annual River Day Festival at the Head Landing and volunteers are needed for set-up and take-down, children’s activities that include fish printing, stilt building, mini boat building, and food. Volunteers are also needed to help with registration for the non-competitive family paddle that leaves from the Hix Bridge

Both events offer volunteers a fun-filled day and the reward of supporting an organization whose mission is to protect the natural resources of the river and watershed.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
