Warren vs. Bristol in Saturday blood drive

Who's got more blood, Warren or Bristol? Saturday decides it.

The fire departments from the two neighboring towns are having a blood drive challenge from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. this coming Saturday, Oct. 6. Residents who give blood in either town can elect to have their donation "count" in a contest between the two apartments; here's how. Warren residents can give blood at the Rhode Island Blood Center's bloodmobile, which will be parked at the Warren Police Department at 1 Joyce St. To donate for the fire department, tell blood volunteers to use sponsor code 3013. Bristol residents who want to donate can do so in the training room at the fire/rescue headquarters at the intersection of Metacom Avenue and Annawasmcutt Drive. To donate for Bristol, use sponsor code 3006. The Civil Air Patrol will be helping with Warren donations, and Bristol Warren Troop 480 (cadette and senior level) will be helping in Bristol.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
