Warren Town Council meets Tuesday night

The big news this week is the Fourth of July, but the Town of Warren gets back to work Tuesday. Among the items on the council's agenda for Tuesday, July 8, are:

Special Olympians Janine Beusoleil, Lisa Caton, Eleanor Ingraham, John Kemp, Cindy O'Donnell and Robbie Strickland will be honored for their excellent showing in the summer games last month at URI. Way to go athletes!

The council will hold a public hearing and vote on a new section of town code that will compel property owners to keep better tabs on their rentals. The addition of "Property Maintenance and Housing Standards" section was brought to the council by councilor Joseph DePasquale.

Finance Director Michael Abbruzzi is requesting permission to overspend the town employee pension costs line item by up to $9,000. More on this later.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
