Warren-built boat wins in Newport

A Warren-built sailboat was named one of the top new boats during the recent Newport International Boat Show.

The Alerion 41, a sleek new cruiser from Alerion Yachts on Market Street, was named the People's Choice Winner. Alerions are built by USWatercraft, a successor of the Pearson Marine Group which has been building boats in Warren for generations.

The Alerion 41 is a sleek sailor that can accommodate up to six people. Designed to be singlehandedly with ease, the boat has electric winches, autopilot and uses generous amounts of carbon fiber in the masts, spars and other areas. It doesn't skimp on creature comforts, either. Owners can choose to have the interior fitted out in American Cherry, teak or other offerings.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
