Walk, race, in memory of Warren's Kayleigh Raposa

Runners and walkers plan to step out in memory of Warren's Kayleigh Raposa when the Kayleigh Raposa Memorial Fund holds the fifth annual "5-Kay" run and one-mile run Saturday, Oct. 20, at Colt State Park in Bristol.

The run/walk begins at 10 a.m. at the park's pavilion, just past the statue of John Chafee. Registration at the race is $20. Online registration the day before the race is $18.

Kayleigh Raposa, a sophomore at Mt. Hope High School and a Warren resident, was killed in a car accident in Bristol on Feb. 23, 2007. A soccer and all around-sports lover, she was 16 years old.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
