Update: East Providence Police continue investigation into Central Avenue shooting

EAST PROVIDENCE - East Providence Police Department detectives and officers continue to investigation into an early morning shooting Sunday, Sept. 29, that left one young man injured and with the suspects still at large.

Contrary to other published media reports, the victim, whom police described as an African-American male in his early 20s, was not shot while sitting in a vehicle. Rather, he was placed in the vehicle by his friends also at the scene in an attempt to get him treatment. Before they could depart, however, police arrived at the location. The victim subsequently received medical attention from East Providence Fire Department personnel and was transported with serious injuries to Rhode Island Hospital.

As of mid evening Sunday, police continued to refuse to identify the suspect, nor did they release the name of the victim. Police officials, as of about 6 p.m. or roughly six hours after the incident occurred, also did not state whether the perpetrators had been located. The suspects fled the scene on foot, heading towards Waterman Avenue.
