Unions of East Providence help spread holiday cheer

Posted

EAST PROVIDENCE — Working East Providence, a coalition of the public and private labor organizations and their members who reside in the city, recently gathered at the East Providence Education Association office on Waterman Avenue to perform what it hopes to become annual charitable offerings.

This year Working East Providence delivered to 35 needed families a turkey and a $25 gift certificate to Shop & Shop. Stop & Shop donated the turkeys to the UFCW and the labor organizations purchased the gift certificates & delivered them to homes.

“This is our first year and we hope to broaden our efforts next year,” EPEA President Val Lawson.

Among the members of Working East Providence who helped prepare the offerings included (pictured above) Dominic Pontarelli from the UFCW, Dave DeFonseca, E.P. Firefighter union president, Anthony Guigliemi school psychologist and EPEA member, and Rob Pray, East Providence firefighter.
