The Tiverton Tigers varsity girls’ soccer team has secured a spot in the Division III finals after defeating Cranston East 4-0 on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

After losing to the Thunderbolts at the beginning of the season, the Tigers came out with a vengeance during the semifinal game played in Johnston. Sophomore Mariah Ramos championed with scoring, beating Thunderbolts goalies’ Giannie Soto and Zasia Barron three times, while junior Kayley Nagle captained the defense before leaving the field with an injury in the second half. Emma Lopes earned her shutout win—her tenth this year—with five saves against the Cranston East offense.

In his first year of coaching, head coach Jim Gauch couldn’t be prouder of all his girls have already accomplished.

“They have played hurt, tired, in the rain and in the heat, but never gave up,” he said.

Competing against the Tigers in the finals are the undefeated Narragansett Mariners, who won their semifinal match against Tolman 2-1 on Wednesday. Tiverton faced Narragansett early on in their season, losing that game by a score of 2-1. Though it will be tough on Tiverton if Nagle is unable to play in the finals, Mr. Gauch is confident his defense can still stand strong against the Mariners.

“We have a lot of talent on the field and on the bench waiting to come in,” he said.

The finals will be held at Rhode Island College on Monday, Nov. 12 at 4 pm.
