Tiverton Lions to host Platt golf tourney


The Tiverton Lions Club is looking for players and tee sponsors for its 16th annual Everett J Platt Charity Golf Tournament to be held Saturday, Sept. 20.

Welcome are both players or tee sponsors to help support the charitable work the Tiverton Lions Club does. This includes scholarships, Little League, Library, clothing and food for needy families, Lions Children Cancer Fund, Lions Sight Foundation, Hasbro Children's Hospital, eye screenings and eye glasses for less fortunate people.

The tournament will be played at Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth with 11 a.m. check-in.

The cost, $100 per player, includes 18 holes of golf, cart, dinner, T-shirt and prizes.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
