Tiverton girls notch third basketball win

The Tiverton High School girls basketball team pushed its record to 3-0 Friday with a 55-43 win over Chariho at Tiverton.

Senior guard  Samantho Sando's 19 points (including three 3-pointers) led the way for the Tigers. Senior guard Avery Pacheco added 17 for Tiverton. Kate Cuddy was Chariho's  top scorer with 16 points.

The Tigers, who play in Division II-East, built a lead of 30-19 by halftime over Division I-South Chariho.

The victory follows two earlier convincing wins for Tiverton: The Tigers beat Middletown 56-44 and then handled Cranston east 55-33.

Tiverton plays next against North Providence at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 at Tiverton in the opener of a holiday week tournament.

North Providence used a stifling defense to win its first three games (including Injury Fund), holding opponents to 16 points, 21 points and 18 points.

Tiverton finished last season with a 7-9 league record.
