Three Mt. Hope basketball players named to RI Coaches teams
A member of Mt. Hope’s varsity basketball squad was recently named to the Rhode Island Basketball Coaches Association (RIBCA) All-Division III Team.
Matt Scott, a junior, is the first Huskie to be named to an All-Division team since RIBCA instituted All-Division teams in 2004.
Scott was one of eight Division III players to play in the 2013 RIBCA All-Star Basketball Tournament, after averaging 21.6 points per game during the season. Scott’s overall field goal percentage was 47.6 percent with a 34.6 percent three-point average. He averaged 9.2 rebounds per game, grabbing 5.7 defensive rebounds per game and 3.5 offensive rebounds per game. During the season, he averaged 3.9 steals, 2.7 assists and nearly one blocks per game, helping the Huskies to its 14-8 season.
In addition Scott, along with Mt. Hope junior Kyle Valenzuela, were named to the RIBCA Division III East First Team.
Valenzuela averaged 11.2 points per game. He was eleventh in the state in free throws attempted, averaging 81 percent from the line.
Mt. Hope’s Ben Francis was named to the RIBCA Division III East Second Team. Francis, a senior, averaged 15.3 points per game. In his last game, a 69-66 playoff loss to East Greenwich, Francis hit seven three-pointers in the second half.
