Thomas A. Boulanger, 50, Portsmouth

Thomas Adrien Boulanger, 50, of Portsmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 15, 2013, at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of 17 years to Lisa A. (Bienvenue) Boulanger.

Thomas was born in Fall River, the son of Richard and Claire (Lavoie) Boulanger of Somerset. He graduated from Diman Regional Technical Vocational High School and the Alfred State Suny College of Technology in New York with an Associate’s Degree in Building Trades – Building Construction.  He was a master carpenter whose original creations, renovations, and restorations are cherished and admired by all.

Until his retirement in 2011, Mr. Boulanger worked for the Bradlees and Stop & Shop Companies as a construction foreman and as a construction superintendent for over 30 years. He then started a new career as an aquacultural farmer.

Tom loved being on the water fishing with his friends; in the water quahogging; or under the water scuba diving with his son Cole. He raced dirt bikes and jet skis – for Team Gash. He was also an avid golfer and snowboarder – his adventures even included a ski trip to the Alps. But most of all, Tom lived for and loved his family.

Survivors besides his wife and parents are a daughter, Rebecca L. Boulanger of Somerset, Mass.; a son, Cole T. Boulanger of Portsmouth; a brother, Richard C. Boulanger and his wife Colette of Dighton, Mass.; two sisters, Colleen A. Driscoll and her husband Jeffrey of Somerset, and Michelle M. Arden and her husband Derrick Swimm of Somerset; a mother in law, Mary Lou Bienvenue of Somerset; a brother in law, Michael Bienvenue of Somerset; and eight nieces and nephews, Adam, Philip, Adrien, Jonathan, Jocelyn, Brittany, Cory and Mitchell. He was the son in law of the late Albert Bienvenue; and the brother in law of the late Eric Arden.

Visitation is Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Saint Louis de France Church 56 Buffington Street, Swansea.  To light a candle, sign the guest book, or directions go to or call 508 672-3572. Memorial donations may be made to the Cole Thomas Boulanger Educational Trust, P.O. Box 112 Somerset, MA 02726

He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
