Theresa M. Pate, 79, Portsmouth

Theresa (Terry) M. Pate, 79, of Sebastian, Fla., formerly of Portsmouth, died unexpectedly Friday, July 11, 2014 at Sebastian River Medical Center with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Harry E. Pate, Jr.

Born in Norwich, Conn. on Dec. 25, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Fannie (Korshik) Malenowsky.

A talented seamstress throughout her life, Terry was also a gifted artist. She was a member of the Indian River Art Club where she participated in classes, art shows and community outreach, and, above all, cherished her art club friends.

She leaves her children, Robert Loomis (Diane) of Charlestown, R.I.; Lori Corbishley (John) of Portsmouth, R.I.; and Dianna Kellerman (Dale Maloney) of Vero Beach, Fla. She was the beloved “Mimi” to eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Crystal, April, Whit, Sara, Courtland, Courtney and Christina; and five great-grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Alexander and Paul, and her grandson, Eddie.

A private service will be held in September when she planned to visit Rhode Island.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
