Suspect in East Providence stabbing incident headed to ACI
EAST PROVIDENCE — Two Providence men attending a weekend house party on Bliss Street in city were involved in a stabbing incident. The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital while the perpetrator is headed to the Adult Correctional Institution.
East Providence Police Detective Captain Richard Frazier said the altercation occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday morning, Jan. 13. A very large gathering took place at the residence on Bliss Street, near Brightridge Avenue. An altercation at the party spilled into the street where the alleged stabbing occurred.
Police responded to a disturbance call, finding a 21-year-old male from Providence with a stab wound to the abdomen, according to Capt. Frazier. The victim was transported to hospital where he remained as of Sunday afternoon.
Capt. Frazier said police took a 22-year-old Providence male suspect into custody on a probation violation. The suspect has yet to be formally charged for his participation in Sunday's incident. Capt. Frazier did not release the suspect's name, referring to him as a "person of interest." Capt. Frazier added the suspect has a "lengthy" criminal record. He was being held and was expected to be transported shortly to the ACI in Cranston.
