State Police identify serviceman as pedestrian killed on I-195 in East Providence

NORTH SCITUATE — Carlos Rodriguez, a 22-year-old serviceman, was identified by Rhode Island State Police as the pedestrian killed walking in Interstate 195 in city in the wee hours of Sunday morning, Sept. 15.

Mr. Rodriguez was was struck by an oncoming vehicle and killed instantly while walking in one of the left, eastbound high speed lanes on the Washington Bridge portion of the highway. According to State Police, Mr. Rodriguez was out with friends Saturday night, but got separated from the group and began walking when he ventured onto the highway.

According to reports, Mr. Rodriguez was from Florida and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Hampshire submarine based out of Groton, Conn.
