State offers trail grants

The state announces the availability of $1.5 million in federal transportation funds for recreational trail projects in Rhode Island.  Applications for the grants will be accepted through November 30.

Local, state and non-profit agencies and Indian tribes are eligible for the matching grants, which provide 80 percent of the cost up to $100,000, for projects that promote and enhance trail-based recreation. The trails grant awards are expected to be awarded in January 2013.

Further information and downloadable applications for the trails grant program are available on DEM’s website,, by clicking on “Planning and Development” under “Offices and Divisions” on the homepage, then “Local Grant Programs,” then “Recreational Trails Grants.”
