The Mt. Hope High School football, girls soccer and girls volleyball teams welcome in rivals this week as their seasons head toward a close and the games grow in importance.

Football — The Mt. Hope football team welcomes Shea High School Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Senior Night in a battle at the top of the division. As part of the festivities, the Huskies will honor U.S. service men and women, and host a PopWarner League game at halftime. After an impressive, 41-7 win over Chariho last week, the Huskies (4-1 in division, 6-2 overall) sit in second place, just behind the unbeaten Shea.

Soccer — The Huskies wrap up the regular season at home against Lincoln High School Friday at 4:15 p.m. Mt. Hope is certainly headed to the playoffs with an overall record of 14-2-2, before having faced Cumberland Tuesday night.

Volleyball — Mt. Hope has been dominant all season long, and looks to continue that trend when the Huskies welcome third-place Toll Gate to town Thursday at 6 p.m. In first place at 10-1 in division, 11-2 overall, Mt. Hope is also headed to the post-season in volleyball.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
