Single vehicle crash cuts power to Mt. Hope

Posted

A single vehicle crash on Chestnut Street at approximately 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26 caused a power outage to Mt. Hope High School and sent one man to the hospital.

A high school employee was inside the building when the lights flickered and went out around 1 p.m. When he stepped outside to see if there was a cause of the outage, he saw a late model, silver SUV pointing west on the eastbound side of Chestnut Street, completely off the roadway and into the woods. Next to the vehicle was a utility pole severed at its base and power lines hanging precariously over the roadway.

The school employee said that by the time he dialed 9-1-1 police were already on the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Rescue personnel transported the driver of the vehicle to the hospital for unknown injuries. It appeared that the driver was alone in the vehicle.
