Shirley Diodati, 77, Naples, Fla.

Shirley A. (McDonald) Diodati, 77, peacefully passed away in Naples, Fla. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Anna R McDonald and James E. McDonald, and the sister of the late James E McDonald Jr. and John R. McDonald. Shirley graduated from St. Mary Academy-Bay View. She retired from Rhode Island School of Design after a 30-year career. Her life was enriched by her relationship with family and friends, and her love for the arts, traveling, and the outdoors such as gardening, bike riding, kayaking, hiking and reading at the beach. Those who loved her will forever treasure her sense of humor and good nature. She leaves her sister, Joan Stauble and her children, Kimberly Securo, Henry Diodati Jr. (Deidre), Lori Amaral (Kenneth Sampson) and Scott Diodati (Sallian). She was the loving grandmother of Lauren, Lindsey and Evan Securo, Joseph, Nicholas, Lucas and Lylah Diodati, Bradley Amaral, Sophia Diodati and Renae Hamby; and the great-grandmother of Tristen Hamby.  A funeral mass will be held in her honor at St. Mary of The Bay in Warren on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
