Set sail on the 'Haunted Whale Ship'

The New Bedford Whaling Museum’s family-friendly Halloween event is geared for children 12 and under and their parents. See the century-old museum in a new (dim) light and meet ghosts from New Bedford’s seafaring past. The not-too scary fun includes a costume contest, haunted scavenger hunt, arts & crafts activities, spooky stories & tours, refreshments, and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

WHERE: New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill

WHEN: 4:30-7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 26.

COST: Tickets are required in advance: $3 for children 12 and under; $5 for all others.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
