Seal expedition offered by Buzzards Bay Coalition

Posted

The Buzzards Bay Coalition offers a winter trip in search of seals — among Buzzards Bay’s most numerous winter visitors.

The expedition will begin at the Buzzards Bay Discovery Center in Woods Hole, where guests will examine a model of a harbor seal and learn about their life in Buzzards Bay and beyond.

Then the group will board the M/V Richard Edwards to look for these playful mammals in Woods Hole Harbor. The boat is heated and we will provide binoculars.

The trip will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, (inclement weather date: Sunday, Jan. 20).

Meet at Buzzards Bay Discover Center, 21 Luscombe Avenue, Woods Hole.

Cost is $30 for Bay Coalition members, $40 for non-members, $25 for children.

Reservations are required. To RSVP, contact Rob Hancock at hancock@savebuzzardsbay.org or 508.999.6363 x222.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
