Sally T. (Town) Hathaway, 77


Sally T. (Town) Hathaway, 77, of Somerset, Mass., passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Mass General Hospital Boston, Mass.

She was married to her childhood sweetheart David C. Hathaway of Tiverton, R.I. from 1955 until his passing in 1991.

Born in Fall River, Mass., on Aug. 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ina (Flowers) Town.

A graduate of Newport School of Nursing in 1954, she practiced 44 years as a Registered Nurse, retiring from the Brecksville VA in Ohio in 1998.

She is survived by her loving family, Susan Hathaway of Berkley, Mass., Bruce Hathaway and his wife Nancy and their daughter Sara of Tiverton, R.I., her sister Jane Dattoli and her husband John of Somerset, Mass., her brother H. Sanford Town of Florida, her nephews, Stephen, Scott and Phillip Bodell and Jeffrey, Alan and Matthew Town, and 11 grand nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a service at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
