RWU to test emergency siren today
Roger Williams University will conduct an operational test of its Emergency Siren Warning System at about 11:55 a.m. on Monday, April 21.
The system, which broadcasts an 850-Hz siren tone, was implemented in 2008 to satisfy the need for immediate communication in the event of sudden emergencies. The ESWS is activated rarely, reserved for such life-threatening situations as a sudden, dangerous lightning storm, a chemical spill or a hostile intruder.
Periodic testing is crucial to ensure the system will operate when needed. While some local community members in the vicinity of the university may hear the siren tone on Monday, it is only a test – no action is required. Click here for more information about the ESWS.
