Runaway cesspool truck slams utility pole

TIVERTON — The brakes on a cesspool-cleaning truck on Hilton Street failed and the vehicle coasted downhill more than a block until it hit a utility pole at the intersection of Hilton Street and Bottom Streets at 11:20 a.m. on Monday, July 15.

Tiverton Police Captain Patrick Jones said the driver, Olimpio J. Baptista, 28, of Pawtucket, was charged under a 6th District Court bench warrant with failure to appear for a failure to pay hearing, and the truck was impounded.
