"Rose" Comes Alive at the Westport Library

Posted

The Friends of the Westport Library (FOWL) is pleased to present a performance of the one woman play, “Rose” featuring accomplished local actor Linda Monchik as Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 7PM in the Manton Community Room at the Westport Free Public Library. The well received play, written by Lawrence Leamer, is based upon recordings of more than 40 hours of interviews in the late 1960s and early 1970s by author Robert Coughlan with the Kennedy matriarch. The play will transport the audience to the Hyannis Port summer home of the Kennedy clan in August 1969, with Rose having already lost two sons to assassination, one to war, one daughter in a plane crash and daughter Rosemary institutionalized following lobotomy surgery. Her remaining son Ted has not yet returned from his Chappaquiddick sail of the prior week.

Admission to “Rose” is free to the public, but donations to FOWL are gratefully accepted to support the Library and its programs. The Westport Free Public Library is located at 408 Old County Rd, Westport, MA 02790. 508-636-1100

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
