Rooftop trespassers in Barrington spotted three times in two days
Local teenagers were seen atop the Rite Aid on County Road, Brickyard Wine and Spirits and Sowams School last weekend, and on each occasion Barrington police did their best to usher the young people back onto solid ground.
At about 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, a motorist called police after noticing some kids on the roof of the Rite Aid building. Officers responded to the scene and saw teens running from the area.
The officer said he had seen the same group of young people standing atop the Brickyard Wine and Spirits building a block north of the Rite Aid. The officer had also spoken with a group of five Barrington teenagers — ranging in age from 15 to 18 — earlier in the night when they were spotted loitering in the parking lot behind Rite Aid. The officer reportedly told the teens to leave the area.
Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the case was still under investigation and the minors could face trespassing charges.
On Monday, Sept. 2 at about 6:30 p.m., an officer on routine patrol saw two teenagers — a boy and a girl — atop the Sowams School roof. The officer ordered the two off the roof and issued trespassing warnings.
