Robert J. Ferranty, Barrington
Robert J. Ferranty, of Barrington, an attorney and retired senior vice president and director of the Providence Energy Corp. and the Providence Gas Company, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013.
He was the son of the late A. Robert and Edith (Johnson) Ferranty and was born in Providence. He had resided in Barrington since 1950.
He was a graduate of Brown University and Boston University School of Law where he was elected a senior editor of the Boston University Law Review. He was admitted to the Rhode Island Bar in 1963 and was also admitted to the Federal District Court Bar. He was a member of the RI Bar Association.
Mr. Ferranty was active in the gas industry affairs in New England serving as a New England Gas Association director from 1975 to 1982, second vice chairman, first vice chairman and chairman of that organization in 1979-1980. He was a member of the Gas Distribution Executives executive committee and served as chairman for two years. He was a past president of the Guild of Gas Managers and past chairman of the Algonquin Gas Transmission Co. customer group.
In the Town of Barrington he served on the Charter Review Commission and the Public Safety Committee. He was a member of the Committee on Appropriations for 21 years and served as chairman twice. He was a former member of the RI Country Club, the Turks Head Club, Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Ft. Lauderdale and the Cove Haven Yacht Club and was a Korean War Veteran.
After retiring from the Providence Gas Company, Bob spent many years upon his yacht, the Sabrina, enjoying time in Ft. Lauderdale, Newport and Block Island.
Mr. Ferranty leaves two cousins, Richard C . Ferrante of Los Angeles, Calif., and Henry Ferrante Jr., of West Palm Beach, Fla. He also leaves his devoted friends, Madeline and John Medeiros, Brian and Kathy Hunt and his beloved dog, Sandy, who never left his side.
