RIPTA considers eliminating bus stops on Metacom Avenue
Due to lack of ridership, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is considering eliminating Metacom Avenue in Bristol as a bus route. That announcement was made by Mark Therrien, assistant general manager of planning for RIPTA. The Metacom Avenue route is one of several “routes that are not that productive,” said Mr. Therrien.
“We’re looking at removing these routes and reallocating resources to other areas,” he said. “We have so much success on Hope Street we’d rather put our resources on Hope Street.”
Mr. Therrien said that several community meetings are planned around the state, allowing residents to voice their opinion on the proposal.
On Thursday, Feb. 28, a meeting will be held at RIPTA headquarters, 705 Elmwood Ave., Providence, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Wednesday, March 6, a community meeting will take place at the Barrington Public Library, 2nd floor, 281 County Road, Barrington. That meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Those who cannot attend any of the community meetings but wish to give their opinion may do so by calling 401-781-9400 or going to www.ripta.com/coa-project-documents
