Right before celebration, Tiverton beaches closed

Late Wednesday, he Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) recommended the closure of Grinnell's Beach and Fogland Beach in Tiverton, as well as Barrington Town Beach, to swimming due to high bacteria counts.

The closure comes just as Tiverton prepares a Friday through Sunday town celebration, much of it centered around Grinell's Beach.

Officials will make a recommendation regarding suitability for swimming when the areas are determined to be safe. Beach status may change on a daily basis. For up-to-date information about swimming at Rhode Island beaches, call (401) 222-2751 or visit www.health.ri.gov/beaches
