Richard John Butze, 90, of Bristol


Richard John Butze, 90 of Avenir Court, passed away peacefully on December 26th at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in New York City, Richard and his wife Helen lived most of their lives in Massachusetts, Florida and Rhode Island.

Richard was a really good guy who enjoyed almost everything in life. Richard was trained and educated as a mechanical engineer graduating from Purdue University at 19 years of age. He then went on to serve our country as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in the Pacific theater during WWII most notably in the landings of Okinawa and Iwo Jima.

Besides being a proud and loving father, Richard spent a great deal of his retired time involved in various aspects of community projects. He loved to read, garden and tinker and was quick with suggestions for all.

Richard is survived by his wife and best friend Helen of 63 years; his sons and their wives Richard Jr. and Julie of Jaffrey, N.H. and David and Moni of Mill Valley, Calif. and granddaughters Lauren and Olivia.  He will also be remembered by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and other friends. Burial with military honors will be April 6th at 12 p.m. in the Memorial Garden at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church 399 Hope Street  Bristol.   Arrangements are by the George Lima Funeral Home.
