RI Governor Chafee and MA Governor Patrick close highways

Governor Lincoln Chafee  and Governor Deval Patrick have restricted travel on all major highways.

As of 5 p.m. Governor Lincoln Chafee has restricted travel on Rhode Island's major highways. I-95, I-195, I-295, RI 146, and RI 24 are affected. Only emergency vehicles and utility crews are allowed on the roadways until further notice.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has also closed state roadways. Governor Patrick state that anyone traveling on the highways could be subject to a fine up to $500.

Residents of both states have been asked to stay indoors and off the streets.
