Rev. August John Woerner, 88, Barrington

Former Barrington resident the Reverend August John Woerner (Gus) died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 88 years of age.

He was born in Newark, NJ on September 27, 1925. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he attended University of Bridgeport, New School for Social Research, and Andover Newton Theological School.

He married Beatrice Berg in Bridgeport, Conn. on Aug. 13, 1955. He went on to serve as Minister of Christian Education for churches in Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.  He retired in 1990 from Barrington Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Woerner, his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandson.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at Mystic Congregational Church, 43 East Main Street, Mystic, Conn.
