Barrington Building Inspector Bob Speaker gave Newport Creamery the green light to reopen on Thursday afternoon, March 28, a day after a vehicle jumped the curb and slammed into the corner of the building.
The impact knocked loose bricks and appeared to have also damaged the window frame, although no glass was broken. Mr. Speaker examined the building shortly after the accident and found that the structural integrity of the building had been compromised.
A construction crew began making repairs to the building on Wednesday, and by Thursday afternoon had addressed the structural issues. Mr. Speaker returned to the County Road building and said the restaurant was safe to re-open.
Workers have constructed a partition inside the restaurant to block off the work area from the seating area.
