Program offers grants to first-time Westport home buyers

The Westport Affordable Housing Trust Fund announces the launch of program that provides grants to qualified residents seeking to buy their first home.

The Housing Opportunity Purchase Program (HOPP) in Westport offers grants for the purpose of “buying down” the selling price of existing-market rate housing in Westport. In addition, the program will reimburse each buyer up to $1,000 toward initial home inspections and any additional inspections required under this program.

An informational session will be held on Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. at the Macomber School, 155 Gifford Road, Westport.

Application deadline is 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28. It is highly recommended that anyone intending to apply attend this meeting.

Maximum household assets are limited to $75,000 and combined gross annual income per household should not exceed 80 percent of the Providence-Fall River Area Median Income.

Income limits are:

• One-person household, $40,250

• Two-person household, $46,000

• Three-person household, $51,750

• Four-person household, $57,500

• Five-person household, $62,100

• Six-person household, $66,700.
