A six-week investigation by Westport Police has led to the arrest of James Robert Jacobs, 47, of 271 Davis Road, Westport, on a felony charge of possession with intent to distribute a Class D drug (marijuana), subsequence offense.

The investigation, led by Detective Bryan McCarthy, involved a surveillance during which officers said they watched Mr. Jacobs distribute a large quantity of marijuana to a woman in a parking lot and and then drive off.

The marijuana was seized after a motor vehicle stop during which police discovered eight 1-pound vacuum sealed packages located inside a container in the trunk of the vehicle. The marijuana has a street value of over $9,500.

After finding Mr. Jacobs at his home, police obtained a search warrant for the residence and seized over $5,000 in cash, several cell phones, and notes documenting suspected drug activity.

Mr. Jacobs  was booked and processed at the police station where he was then transferred to the Bristol County House of Corrections to await his scheduled arraignment in Fall River District Court.
