Primiano: Fostering private-public partnerships

Posted

Many residents I meet tell me they would like more recreational, community, and cultural opportunities in Barrington. The town has been adding to and improving parks and trails. The recreation department has been adding programs and events. I believe we can do even more if we leverage town assets by partnering with private groups.

In responding to the most recent “Question of the Week” I realized how many partnerships we already have.  Our partners come with expertise and enthusiasm, and involving more volunteers fosters a greater sense of community. The recent “Day of Caring” is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when the town partners with other organizations.

I will continue to look for creative ways to promote and support programs and projects that add to our quality of life, promote volunteerism, and build a stronger community.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
