Portsmouth's Turnpike Avenue playground closed

PORTSMOUTH — The playground on Turnpike Avenue has been closed for the time being due to safety concerns.

"There is a rotted-out tree leaning over the play equipment and could come down without warning," said Deputy Fire Chief Michael P. O'Brien. "The tree has been an issue for some time but is said to be leaning over more today. Public works is on the job and will have the tree down today."

The playground's dangerous area has been taped off and residents are asked to stay outside until the tree is cut down. Police will be monitoring the site as well.
