Portsmouth's Team Real Lacrosse tops 100-win mark


PORTSMOUTH — Upon completing its second summer season, Portsmouth-based Team Real Lacrosse has now recorded over 100 wins.

For the 2012 summer season, Team Real Lacrosse teams played in the IAS Recruiting Showcase in Marlborough, Mass., Northeast Challenge in Byfield, Mass,; New England Youth Lacrosse All Star Tournament (NEYLAT) at UMass Amherst; Xtreme Lax Tournament in Groton, Mass.; and Summer Splash Lacrosse Tournament at Harvard University.

The high school varsity team went 11-1 over three tournaments.  The varsity team went undefeated in the IAS Recruiting Showcase and won the U-17 Division of the NEYLAT.

The high school JV team went 8-8-1 over four tournaments, making the finals in the Summer Splash Lacrosse Tournament.

The Youth All Star team went 12-1-1 over three tournaments.  The team went undefeated in the Upper Youth Division at the Xtreme Lax Tournament, won the U-14 Division of the NEYLAT and made it to the Finals of the Summer Splash Lacrosse Tournament.

Team Real Lacrosse had nine high school girls make the 2012 Brine New England Girls High School Underclassmen All-American team that played in the Brine National Lacrosse Classic in Boyds, MD.  This makes a total of 12 HS Underclassmen All-Americans in the last two years.  The club also had three US Lacrosse HS Academic All-Americans for 2012.

The Team Real Lacrosse Club is a year-round program based in Portsmouth.  The club includes girls from kindergarten grade through college from the three-state area.

Registration is open for the fall and winter session programs for girls and boys and will continue with girls’ indoor sessions running November through February.Additional information can be found on the club website: www.teamreallacrosse.com.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
