PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Department of Public Works will pick up discarded Christmas trees under the following schedule that’s based on residents’ voting precincts:

• Monday, Jan. 7, 2019: You voted at Portsmouth Senior Center (Precinct 2702) or Roger Williams University/BayPoint Inn (Precinct 2703). (Typically, Precinct 2703 votes at Common Fence Point Community Hall, but due to a construction project there, the location was temporarily changed in 2018.)

• Tuesday, Jan. 8: Precinct 2704 (Portsmouth High School)

• Wednesday, Jan. 9: Precinct 2705 (Melville School) and Precinct 2706 (Town Hall Council Chambers)

• Thursday, Jan. 10: Precinct 2707 (St. Barnabas Church)

• Friday, Jan. 11: Precinct 2708 (Portsmouth Middle School)

Residents should note the following:

• Trees must be placed at curbside by 7 a.m. on collection day.

• Trees must not be placed in plastic bags and must be totally stripped of all decorations and tinsel.

• Residents who miss their pickup date can also bring Christmas trees to the Department of Public Works located off Hedly Street. Trees will not be accepted at the transfer station.

• Trees will be recycled into mulch that will be available free of charge to Portsmouth residents. For more information on when mulch is available, contact Portsmouth Public Works at 401/683-0362.
