Portsmouth to celebrate 375th with soup, heartfelt portrait

PORTSMOUTH — Soup and the chance to pose for a most unique Portsmouth birthday portrait are on the menu when the Portsmouth 375thCelebration Committee hosts Soup sunday from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17 at St. Barnabas' Parish Hall, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.

A variety of hot soups, salad and bread will be served to raise funds for future committee events and ultimately for the preservation of historic artifacts and documents at the Portsmouth Free Public Library.

At 1:30 pm, citizens will gather in the parking lot to form a human heart that will be photographed from above.

Tickets are available from Custom House Coffee, Portsmouth Senior Center, Invidia Hair Salon, Allen's Liquors, Green Grocer and through 375thCommittee members.

Tickets cost $6 for adults, $4 for children; ages 2 and under are free. Tickets must be purchased by February 15.

A free pass for skating at the Portsmouth Abbey Hockey Rink, good on Feb. 17 or March 3 from 2 to 4 p.m., will also be given to all attendees.
