Portsmouth Police busy with drunk-driving arrests

PORTSMOUTH — Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police report from over the past week.s

Thursday, March 23

A Dianne Avenue resident reported a bicycle she had found in the walking path just south of her street. The bike, a pink Mongoose single-speed, had been on the path for a few days and she didn’t know who it belonged to, police said. The bicycle was taken to the police station, where it was labeled and placed behind headquarters. Police said they hadn’t received any reports of a missing bike.

Friday, March 24

Miranda R. Amitrano, 25, of 3758 Division Road, East Greenwich, was arrested at about 3:15 p.m. on a warrant out of Providence related to a domestic assault charge. Police stopped the car Ms. Amitrano was driving on East Main Road near Vanderbilt Lane because its inspection sticker had expired.

Wildanny A. Paredes Cruz, 24, of 62 Jean St., Middletown, was charged on a 2nd District Court bench warrant around 5 p.m. after the vehicle he was driving was stopped on West Main Road near the Melville School because its rear-view mirror was obstructed, police said.

Thomas R. Buckley, 24, of 20 Broadway, Newport, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, with damage resulting to another vehicle, on Route 24 South at about 6 p.m. A 34-year-old Fall River woman told police that another vehicle sideswiped her car but kept traveling south. She provided police with the license plate number and police spoke to the vehicle owner, who identified Mr. Buckley as the driver, according to police. Mr. Buckley was charged at about 8:45 p.m., when he came to the police station, police said.

Sunday, March 26

John R. Spencer, 30, of 55 Corys Lane, Tiverton, was charged with driving while intoxicated at about 12:50 a.m. after his car was stopped for speeding on West Main Road near Dunkin’ Donuts. According to police, Mr. Spencer was clocked at 57 mph in a 35-mph zone and his vehicle also crossed the center line. Mr. Spencer failed a field sobriety test as well as a chemical test, according to police. 

Paige A. Treglia, 20, of 11 Island Drive, Norwalk, Conn., was charged with driving while intoxicated after the Jeep she was driving crashed into a ditch on Union Street shortly before 4 p.m., according to police. Ms. Treglia, who was not hurt, failed a field sobriety test and a chemical test at the scene, police said. She was also cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Richard D. North, 52, of 57 Martens Road, was charged at about 8 p.m. with driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a chemical test. Police responded to Mr. North’s home after receiving a report that he was driving while drunk. While they were there, Mr. North pulled into the driveway, police said. He failed a field sobriety test, according to police.
