Portsmouth Middle School softball team dominates

PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth Middle School won two games this week in convincing fashion.

On Monday the team, coached by Caitlin Poplawski, blanked Thompson Middle School at Braga Park in Newport, 18-0.

Emma Campbell had nine strikeouts, while Taylor Cofield picked up four RBIs and a home run. Maddie White added two RBIs and Jillian Whiteside played well for Portsmouth.

On Thursday, the team defeated Martin Middle School 15-7.

The battle raged into extra innings until Portsmouth broke it open in the eighth with hits from Lexi Caron and Kelly Conley. April Younkin finished the day with four hits on five at-bats, including an RBI triple in the third inning.
