Portsmouth girls ousted by top-seed Smithfield

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School girls soccer season came to an end Saturday in a playoff shoot-out loss to top-seed Smithfield.

Leah Hibbad scored Portsmouth's lone goal in the second half leaving the teams tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and through both overtimes.

Smithfield won the shoot-out by a 4-3 score.

Portsmouth goalie Sarah Myerson recorded eight saves on the day.

Portsmouth, which started its season at a torrid 6-0-1 pace, wound up 6-4-4 in the division and 7-5-4 overall. Smithfield was 11-1-5 overall, 9-1-4 in division.

Portsmouth opened its playoff run last Thursday in promising fashion with a 2-1 win over East Greenwich.
