Portsmouth girls lacrosse outlasts Cranston East 14-10


PORTSMOUTH—The Portsmouth High School girls lacrosse team defeated Cranston East 14-10 in the Division II semifinal match at Portsmouth on Tuesday night. Freshman Lindsey Volk scored back to back goals after Cranston East had tied the score 9-9 with seven minutes to go in the match. The Lady Patriots move on to the Division II finals on Saturday June 1, at 3 p.m. at Brown University and will face the winner of Middletown and the Lincoln School.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
