PORTSMOUTH — Taylor Richardson of Portsmouth placed third overall in the local qualifier for the Drive, Chip and Putt Competition sponsored by PGA New England at Button Hole Golf Course in Providence on June 17.

Taylor, 14, who will enter her freshman year at Portsmouth High School in the fall, also placed third in chipping and third in driving in the competition.

She advanced to the New England sub-regionals at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass. on Aug. 16.

She is a junior member at Green Valley Country Club and is volunteering there this summer in the golf camp, where she learned the game herself.

Taylor’s coach is Dan Gaughan of the Rhode Island Golf Association.
